Windows vs MacOS vs Linux for Web Development | Which Operating System is Best for Web Developers

Windows vs MacOS vs Linux for Web Development. The Heavily Debated Topic of which Operating System is best for web developers to use for coding their websites locally seems like it’ll never end.

This topic rivals those of Tabs vs Spaces, PHP vs Python and others that have made programmers go ballistic when debating which are the best tools to use for programming.

In this video, I share my opinion on which is the best operating system to use and why. I also go into detail on the pro’s and con’s of each operating system while developing websites locally.

My Journey to Becoming a Full Stack Web Developer:

Windows might be the dominant operating system when it comes to the consumer market, but Linux reigns supreme when it comes to the operating system of choice for web servers in data centers.

The overwhelming majority of websites use Linux and as a web developer, it’s important that you get familiar with Linux. Even if you’re using a Windows or MacOS powered computer, you can always install programs like Virtual box or VM Ware that make it possible for you to run Linux on your host computer.

Windows also has the Windows Subsystem for Linux which makes it even easier for you to get familiar with Linux.

When it comes to pricing, you have a greater degree of price points for Windows Laptops and Desktops.

When it comes to build quality, Apple still makes the best laptops and desktops when it comes to premium materials used that will last you for years.

When it comes to configuration options, Windows powered laptops and desktops give you the broadest options to choose from, from barebones type computers, to top of the line, powerful computers that offer the type of processing power you’d need when working with virtual machines, editing videos, data processing and more.

Linux powered laptops and desktops aren’t as easy to find in a store but you can always checkout a company like System76 which is one of the most popular brands for Linux Computers.

Me personally, I use all three operating systems on a daily basis for various tasks and testing of my programs and code. I understand the pain points of each operating system and over the years, have found a way to virtually seamlessly integrate all three OS’s.

In this video I hope to shed some light on which OS might be right for you and why.
